Meet the Young Jury of ŻUBROFFKA!

It is with great pleasure that we present this year’s Young Jury of ŻUBROFFKA!

The jury, chaired by film expert and critic Diana Dąbrowska, includes following women from Białystok: Gabriela Rybołowicz, Maja Cieślak and Magdalena Alifier.

The Young Jury will select the best film from among the films participating in the national competitions of the 15th edition of our festival. The jurors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the secrets of film criticism.

Diana Dąbrowska

Film scholar associated with Film Łódź, culture animator, in 2014-2019 lecturer at the University of Łódź (Italian studies, film studies), organizer of film reviews and festivals (Summer Film Academy in Zwierzyniec, Forum of European Cinema Cinergia in Łódź, Octopus Film Festival in Gdańsk, Łódź Culture Factory: Tradition, Education, Creation). She has written for, among others, Filmweb, Kultura Liberalna, KINO, Krytyka Polityczna, Czas Kultury, Aktivist, Anywhere, Ekrany, Stopklatka, Studia Filmoznawcze, and for collective works. Co-editor of the scientific publication (with Anna Miller-Klejsa PhD) “Italian cinema after 1980” (published by the University of Łódź, 2018). Frequent guest of such shows as “Kino mówi” in Ale Kino Plus, “OFF-Czarek” in Tok Fm and Michał Oleszczyk’s “Spoilermaster – podcast do słuchania po filmie”. Winner of the “Cinema Talks” award of the 5th edition of the Camera! Action! festival in Łódź (2014) and Leopold Staff Literary Award (2018) for promoting Italian culture with particular emphasis on cinematography. Nominated for the Polish Film Institute Award in the film criticism category (2019). Runner-up of Krzysztof Mętrak Award for young film critics (2020) and the audience award of the National Competition of Film Speakers organized by the Polish Federation of Film Discussion Clubs. In 2020, with the editors of the “Gazzetta Italia”, she developed the project “Until there is cinema, there is hope / Finché c’e cinema, c’esperanza”, in Italian and Polish, devoted to Italian cinematography. Curator of the “Hommage a Kieślowski” film festival in Sokołowsko.

Gabriela Rybołowicz

A student of the 2nd year of the Adam Mickiewicz High School No. 1 in Białystok. A lover of Wong Kar-wai’s films, Chantal Akerman and movies where “nothing happens”. When she is not sitting in a cinema chair, she catches up with literature and philosophy and collects vinyl records.

Magdalena Alifier

A student of the High School No. 2 in Białystok, in an international class. She is interested in art, especially drawing and painting, she has been drawing and painting for years. Cinematography and film are her new passion. She is one of the organizers of the Face The Sex social initiative.

Maja Cieślak

Art history student at the University of Warsaw. She is interested in the history and theory of photography and the Soviet school of editing. Recently, she has been intensively exploring the film experiments of Dziga Vertov. In her free time, she gets to know the literature and cinematography of East Asia.
