ŻUBROFFKA Special: To zdarzyło się w Moskwie

When ZUBROFFKA asked us to form a program of short films, showing the capital of Russia at its best, it was uneasy and a little embarrassing. Young directors rarely use the views of the city in their shorts. We have 15 film schools, 20 national programs at short film festivals, almost 1000 shorts released every year but it’s hard to find a good one that shows a true image of contemporary Moscow. On the other hand, we searched deeply and found stories that could probably only happen in this city – some typical or regular Moscow stories that might seem weird or ridiculous in another smaller Russian city or even another country. They are Soviet nostalgia, absurd, heavy-drunk luxury, tragic and lyric stories. These stories tell why we live here, why we have come here, and what we shall never forget about Moscow.
