Animated short documentaries

Dziga Vertov wouldn’t believe such times have come! For years, the old master tried to be as close to the reality with his camera as possible, and he never dreamed that a documentary filmmaker could make history in the comfort of his/her home without reviewing hundreds of hours of footage. This year, in his hometown, you will see … animated documentaries!

After the success of “Waltz with Bashir” and “Persepolis”, dozens of animated reconstructions of the real world have been created. Each of them confronts reality in its own specific way, playing with the conventions of classic documentary cinema. During the show you will watch the most interesting world representatives of the new trend: from Chile, the United States through Ireland, to the native Polish production.

The programme includes, among others, two Irish films: “Irish Folk Furniture” (the Sundance winner), portraying the historical crisis of Ireland through the history of an e-mail and “Two Wheels Good” – a nostalgic journey back to the childhood and the first lessons of cycling. South America will be represented by “Chile Imaginario” – Chilean history through the eyes of young people. You can also see the history of an Icelandic music outsider – “The Pirate of Love” and the American story of the whale “The Whale Story”. The authors of “Abuelas” also return to the past showing the preparations of a lady to become a grandmother. “Nyosha” tells the story of Nomi Kapel who survived the Holocaust. The programme also includes a puckish “History of Virginity” and films of the former Eastern bloc – a moving documentary “The Rule of Love” and “Father” which shows different faces of relation father – son.
