Ukrainian angries

Ukrainian Angries is a new Ukrainian formation that bravely came into being in the midst of economic crisis of 2009. At that time several production studios, distributors, directors and script writers joined their sources and created a low budget almanac of short films “Assholes. Arabesques”. The main character of the almanac is an “asshole” as a symbol of nowadays success and lifestyle.

Another social phenomenon cruelly dissected by the directors is internal and external migration. Why are Ukrainians escaping their country? Why do they feel alienated at home? A new wave of Ukrainian directors have focused on these topics and created a series of 40 short films. Best of the were screened as “Ukraine, goodbye!”. It is a kind of social- anthropological research by young Ukrainian directors and scriptwriters in their attempt to define modern life.
Ukrainian Angries like Italian neorealists or British kitchen sink realists make films about what is going on now and today, about people they know the best – about themselves.

They are already recognized at the best world film forums such as Locarno International Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, Cannes International Film Festival and many more.
