A selection of the films from the Urban View competition that were recognized by both the jury and the audience during the 10th edition of Short Waves Festival. The international competition, twice as strong, entitled Urban View returned to the program of the festival in 2018. Carefully selected images present man’s surrounding in a codified form. The authors of films dedicated to architecture and urban design focus on the element that usually only serves as a backdrop to cinematic narratives. They reveal elements of reality in a non-obvious way, deconstruct the aesthetic order, and present known and unknown sites. Urban View offers a compilation of perspectives from all over the world, inspires and provokes reflection on life and existence in a specific space. Through various cinematic forms, it penetrates the urban tissue and follows the volatile pace of its residents’ lives. Architecture does not merely function as scenography for everyday life; it assumes the role of the main character, leading the viewer through its history by means of the visual laver of the cinematic medium. And this history will have you hooked!

The next edition of Short Waves Festival will take place in Poznań between March 19 and 24, 2019.
