New Serbian Animation

For the last six years, in Serbia, over 80 films have been made ( average of 13 per year). Since the Ministry of Culture has little money to spend on films, including animation, last year only one animated film received the funds. However, apart from films made by professionals, more and more films are created by students  e.g. Applied Arts Faculty and  Faculty of Dramatic Arts at Belgrade Arts University and Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. A big incentive to create animated films are festivals: Balkanima and FESA in Belgrade, Animania in Cack , Golden Snail in Vranje and Animator Fest in Jagodina (the last two are only associated with films for kids). Serbian animation is constantly evolving, and is characterized by an increasing diversity of genres, techniques and topics.
