Ladies and Gentlemen,

the 12th edition of the ŻUBROFFKA International Short Film Festival will take place in Białystok and Podlachia from December 6th to December 10th, 2017.

The graphic design by Izabela Sroka basing on the visual materials made by the Kijek/Adamski duo presents the festival as a peak of a huge, seemingly cold, iceberg with unusual cosmic energy pulsating inside. A blue, more precisely – cobalt, bison on the one hand is a symbol of expressive and uncompromising power, and on the other – a link with primordial, pure and sincere nature.

What is important, the winter setting of this year’s festival did not deprive the event of its distinctive hot and family atmosphere that pleases and inspires the filmmakers from all over the world. The unique atmosphere and the fact, that the festival is one of the biggest in the region, draws the attention of artists from all continents. It is proved by the number of contests entries submitted this year. There were almost 2000 of them, more precisely – 1928, which is the biggest number in the festival’s history. The entries were submitted by the filmmakers from such countries as Afghanistan, Albania, Argentina, , Algeria, Armenia, Aruba, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bashkortostan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, Palestine, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Scotland, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay, U.S.A., Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Yemen, and, obviously, Poland !

ŻUBROFFKA has been building a bridge between the East and the West, the North and the South for years. It is an event, when energy from all parts of the world meets. Typically, the selectors choose around 150 most interesting films (from the almost two thousand!) for the eight competition categories. Special screenings of shorts from all over the world are organized as well. This year, during the five days, the audience will be able to watch a total of over 250 short films!

The Jury evaluates films in three national competitions (Amateur, Students, Independent), two international ones (A Window to the East, All this World), and three open ones for the filmmakers from Poland and abroad (Kids, Music Video, and On the Verge experimental film and videoart competition).

In addition to the Grand Prix of the festival and awards and honourable mentions in every category, there are also special prizes granted for the best Animation, Documentary, Feature Film, Cinematography, and Music. The audience also grants its prize – a Wild Bison.

ŻUBROFFKA is not just movies but also energetic concerts, meetings with artists, exhibitions, discussion panels, and workshops.

The festival is organized by the Białystok Cultural Centre – “GAG” Film Debating Club.
