Svetlana Filippova’s animation retrospective

Svetlana Filippova, the most famous Russian animated film director, was born in 1968 in Alma-Ata (Kazakhstan). Having finished the philology studies at Kazakh State University, she began animation direction studies at the Higher Course for Scriptwriters and Film Directors. She learned under the guidance of such masters of world animation as Jurij Norstein, Fiodor Chitruk and Andriej Chrzanowski. She is currently living and working in Moscow, and is mainly occupied with animated films and book illustrations. Her poetry- filled films tell stories of love, death, lost childhood and touch the world’s eternal truth: in order to give rise to the new, the old must go.
